Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility

Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility is a subspecialty of obstetrics and gynecology which deals with hormonal disturbances, menstrual disorders, excessive hair growth, frequent miscarriages, inability to conceive a child and other general gynecologic diseases. The Department’s Division of Reproductive Endocrinology is widely recognized for its work in the treatment of infertility and other endocrinologic disorders. According to the Society for Assisted Reproductive Technology, our center has outstanding pregnancy rates when compared to other facilities nationwide.

In data published in 2006, approximately 61% of our patients under age 35 became pregnant, as opposed to only 43% of patients nationwide. Approximately 61% of our patients under age 35 receiving treatment went on to give a live birth, while nationwide, the rate was only 37%.

Services

The following are just some of the services offered by the division:

  • In vitro Fertilization (IVF)
  • Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection (ICSI) is a procedure for couples with unexplained infertility, poor fertilization or poor responder couples. During the process of ICSI, an embryologist isolates a single sperm cell, draws it up into a microscopic needle, and injects it inside an egg using a high power microscope.
  • Pre-implantation Genetic Diagnosis (PGD) is recommended in patients with multiple IVF failure, advanced maternal age, or if there is a family history of chromosomal abnormalities.
  • Sex selection for various sex-linked disorders
  • Controlled Ovarian Stimulation (Ovarian Induction, Clomiphene and FSH), used to treat women with ovulatory problems or to regulate menstrual cycles.
  • Intrauterine Insemination (artificial insemination)
  • This center also offers the following services:
  1. Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome Management (PCOS). PCOS is a rare disorder involving irregular periods, excessive hair growth, overweight and infertility, among other symptoms.<
  2. Endometriosis Management. Endometriosis is a disorder that gets its name from the word endometrium, the tissue that lines the uterus (womb). In women with this problem, tissue that looks and acts like the lining of the uterus grows outside of the uterus in other areas. These areas can be called growths, tumors, implants, lesions, or nodules.
  3. Postmenopausal Care
  4. Treatment of Congenital Abnormalities of the female genital tract
